Trauma
Trauma can be most generally defined as an overwhelming event that disrupts one’s sense of safety. This can be a shocking or horrifying event such as an accident, incident of abuse or assault, or a major loss. It can also be something that happens over time but corrodes your sense of wellbeing and security, such as an unhealthy relationship with a parent or significant other, engagement in an unhealthy religious community, or anything that changes the way you view yourself or the world.
