What is individual therapy like?
Therapy is a place for you to be heard, to talk about what is bothering you, to find some new strategies to deal with problems, and to gain insight into why you feel the way you do. I think of it as a puzzle we are trying to put together, by looking into things you have experienced and piecing together how they relate to how you feel now. I believe all emotions serve a purpose, and will help you understand why you are feeling certain emotions and what it might be telling you. We may talk through current issues or past experiences, and might discuss helpful skills that you can use to deal with difficult moments.
I have training in several modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, DBT, and CBT.
